Since I arrived in La Española or Quisqueya, I was surprised to discover that between Haiti and the Dominican Republic there are multiple differences and similarities, which have brought them closer and further apart politically and socially since the founding of both nations. Sometimes, one believes that Haiti is a country far away from the Dominican Republic, that its humanitarian crisis is located on another continent and not on the same Caribbean island.
